Letter: Our future teachers
Sir: You report (28 October) that the Government is planning to extend literacy hours from primary schools to secondary schools. I should like to suggest that they should also be extended to colleges of education.
I recently overheard two first-year students in the book room of my college discussing how to write "ninety-nine pence" on a cheque. After consideration, they opted for "nighty-nine" as the most likely correct spelling.
