Sir: Homosexuality is not widespread in Islam, as alleged by Richard Kirker (letter, 5 August). Islam was perfected as a religion as stated in the Quran (ref 5.3) in the seventh century. Homosexuality was made illegal at that point. You cannot be a Muslim and gay. The majority of Christians do not accept homosexuality as legal. African Christians often criticise Western Christians on this matter. Leviticus 18:22 clearly states: "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."
