This salutes the most daring of Norway's freedom fighters, Max Manus (Aksel Hennie), during the German occupation of Oslo.

Having fought in Finland's volunteer army against the Russians, Max returns to his homeland to foment rebellion. Having already eluded the Gestapo he becomes an expert saboteur of the German warfleet in Oslo harbour. Thomas Nordesth-Tiller's script emphasises the nobility of Norwegian self-sacrifice at all levels, and the psychological toll that living under a death threat exerts on Max and his comrades. A tense drama of the deadly cat-and-mouse between the resistance and the Nazis. The film was seen by a quarter of Norway's population in six weeks.
