DVD: Cemetery Junction, For retail & rental (Sony)

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant spent two series of Extras scoffing at Hollywood clichés and sitcom banalities, so it's bizarre to see the pair embracing those very clichés and banalities in the first film they've written and directed together.

Set in a Hovis-advert Britain of bobbies on the beat, its characters are either good-looking heroes or grotesque villains, and the dialogue spells out the themes in capital letters: "Travel? No one from around here does that."
