Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sicario and Hell or High Water scribe Taylor Sheridan makes his directorial debut with Wind River, so don't expect a film any less visceral or intense in its content.

Here, Elizabeth Olsen stars as FBI agent Jane Banner, determined to solve the murder of an 18-year-old woman on Wyoming's Wind River Indian Reservation, with the aid of local US Fish and Wildlife Service agent Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner).

Their investigation sees them cross paths with a local oil drilling site, with their arrival resulting in a tense stand-off with security, as seen in an exclusive clip from the film.

First premiering at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Sheridan's impressive debut picked up the attention of the Weinstein Company when it screened at the Cannes Film Festival, where Sheridan won the Un Certain Regard prize for Best Director.

Its US release has seen it grow as something of an underdog hit with a per-theatre average of $40,390, one of the best for 2017, during its initial, limited opening weekend. It then continued to expand its theatre distribution in its second and third weeks, managing to finish 4th at the box office.
