Austin Powers star Verne Troyer is "resting comfortably" after reports he was rushed to hospital on 2 April, a statement on his official Facebook page has said.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department confirmed to People that they were called to the actor's home in north Hollywood at around 8.34pm on Monday night, and one person was taken to hospital.

A law enforcement source told TMZ that Troyer was "extremely upset, drunk and suicidal", and also reported that he will remain in hospital for 72 hours for evaluation.

On Facebook, a statement on his page said: "Asking you to keep Verne in your thoughts and prayers. He's getting the best care possible and is resting comfortably. Appreciate the support from family, friends and fans around the world. We will keep you updated here."

Last year in April, Troyer spoke about his ongoing struggles with alcohol at the time, issuing a statement which said: "I've battled alcohol addiction in the past and while it's not always been an easy fight, I'm willing to continue my fight day by day."

Troyer is known for his portrayal of Mini-Me in the Austin Powers films, with his big break in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me in 1999. He has also made appearances in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and The Love Guru.
