Over twenty years on from the original and the sequel to Trainspottingis finally heading to cinemas.
As mentioned numerous times by members of the film’s cast and crew, the delay was primarily down to the script: Danny Boyle, Ewan McGregor and the gang only wanting to reunite if everything was of the highest quality.
Speaking to NME, author Irvine Welsh heaped huge amounts of praise onto the project, going as far as to say: “In some ways, I think it’s a better movie [than Trainspotting].”
He told the publication: “They have become such iconic characters and this is going to cement that status even more. It feels like a big epic movie. I’m very, very excited about it and I think people are going to be excited [too].
“You’ll always get the critics who moan about it not being the original Trainspotting movie or being too much like it… [but] it’s going to be a great film, a great standalone film but also work with the first film as well to bring that whole world together.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Walsh reiterated that the sequel will use elements of Porno, the book sequel to Trainspotting that took place 10 years after the original, while also updating them to a more modern setting.
The first trailer for Trainspotting 2, now titled T2, was revealed earlier this week, the film set for release on 27 January 2017.
