From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the longest instalment in the science fiction series so far, running for an action-packed 152 minutes, 10 minutes longer than previous record holder Attack of the Clones.

That, of course, was the edited version. Turns out there are at least 20 minutes of additional footage filmed, some of which will appear on the Blu-Ray and DVD releases later this year.

Speaking about the upcoming novel adaptation with the Star Wars Show, writer Jason Fry revealed some details as to what we can expect from the book and deleted scenes.

“Rian Johnson and I had an amazing conversation,” Fry said. “We got to write entirely new scenes for the book: Han Solo’s funeral, Rose and Paige Tico together, and further explorations of the fascinating world of Canto Bight, to name just a few.”

During the video interview, we are also offered a very short glimpse at additional footage of Rey and Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To. From the brief few seconds, it seems as though Rey destroys the home of some Caretakers. Skip to the 3:16 mark in the below video to have a look.

If The Last Jedi novel is anything like The Force Awakens one, there will be a whole lot of new information for fans to take on board. Read our debrief of that novel here.
