Christmas has come early for Star Wars fans: two trailers, three Anthology films and now Rogue One casting news.
The Hunger Games’ Sam Claflin is apparently in line for a starring role in the movie, as is rapper/actor Riz Ahmed, according to The Wrap.
Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones is the only confirmed cast member, while Ben Mendelsohn has also been linked to the Star Wars spinoff.
Directed by Rian Johnson, the film will centre on "a band of resistance fighters who unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans," according to an official synopsis from LucasFilm.
It will "explore the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga" and be written by Antz' Chris Weitz, directed by Gareth Edwards and produced by The Dark Knight Rises' Simon Emanuel among others.
A first-look teaser was debuted at the Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim, and while it didn't feature star Felicity Jones, it did dramatically show off the return of the Death Star.
Rogue One will act as the first in a trilogy of Star Wars Anthology spinoffs.
Jones, who broke through with The Theory of Everything this year, will play an as yet unknown role.
The film, which will be released a year after The Force Awakens, hits cinemas 16 December 2016.
