Mark Hamill watched back old Star Wars audition

Mark Hamill has been filmed re-watching his original audition for the role of Luke Skywalker and was left embarrassed after realising he made a huge Star Wars error.

The actor, who fans are hoping will return in Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, appeared in the video for Omaze in an attempt to raising funds for autism charity NAI.

Moments in, he realised he fluffed a crucial character’s name during his first audition.

Hamill pauses the tape after certain moments, providing context for fans. He can be seen acting opposite Harrison Ford, who is off-screen, when he refers to the Han Solo actor as "Hans".

“Did I just call him Hans?” Hamill asks, adding: “Why did I call him Hans instead of Han?”

There has been much debate over the correct pronunciation of Han's name. In the original trilogy, Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) consistently uses a version that rhymes with “can,” while others such as Hamill’s Luke say ”Harn.”

He said: “By the way, all through the shoot people were going ‘Is it or Han or Harn?’”

Hamill explained the same applied to the character of Chewbacca.

“[They would ask] ‘Is it Chewbacca or Chewbarca. We’d ask George [Lucas], and he wouldn’t really care. Can you imagine all that he has on his mind trying to get the movie off the ground and we’re nitpicking about how you pronounce the name of a Wookie?”

Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker is released 16 December.

A recent tweet, that was deleted by an official Disney account, recently fuelled speculation of a big character return in the new JJ Abrams film.
