Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi: Watch Rian Johnson's dream coming true on set
That feeling of "it's a freaking Star Wars movie!" is not limited to cinema-goers, with cast and crew members at the top of their game clearly aware while they were on set that they were contributing to film history.
Disney gave a glimpse behind the scenes of The Last Jedi today with a 'Directing The Last Jedi' featurette and (a good sign for the movie) the atmosphere on set looks to have been very buoyant.
Director Rian Johnson is seen wandering the sets with a satchel bag like a fan lost on a tour, laughing goofily with Chewie, and keeping the cast in good spirits.
"Rian's wonderful personality is all over this film," says Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), with Carrie Fisher (General Leia) adding: "He has flaws in other areas, I just don't know about them."
Crucially, it looks like people were having fun on this movie, but also, of course, working incredibly hard, Johnson describing the mix as a ton of moments of "concentrated work" split up by "holy crap [it's Star Wars]" moments.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in cinemas on 15 December, 2017.
