Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford and Craig Robinson are set to appear in a romantic thriller set during the coronavirus pandemic.

Fans have been given a first look at Songbird, which is created by Adam Mason and produced by Transformers director Michael Bay.

Songbird is set in the year 2024, where the virus is now known as “Covid-23” and has a 50 per cent mortality rate. The world is still in lockdown, with infected Americans forced to leave their homes and live in quarantine camps.

Riverdale’s KJ Apa stars as Nico, a frontline bike courier who is immune to the disease and falls in love with Sara (Sofia Carson), who he can never meet due to strict lockdown rules.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Mason said that despite the dystopian setting, the film was ultimately a romantic drama.

“It’s Romeo and Juliet, but they’re separated by her front door and by the virus,” he said.

Songbird was the first feature film to be made in Los Angeles during the pandemic, with production beginning on 8 July.

The crew were separated into three zones, with frequent testing allowing the entire film to be shot in 17 days.

A release date is yet to be announced.
