"It gives me time to really think about it"

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Richard Linklater has worked with several actors across multiple films in the past; Jack Black (School of Rock, Bernie), Matthew McConaughey (Dazed and Confused, Bernie) and, of course, Boyhood oscar-winner Patricia Arquette.
No actor, however, comes close to Ethan Hawke who has worked with the Everybody Wants Some!! filmmaker a total of eight times - and it looks as if they'll be adding at least one more to that tally in the far future.
In an interview with Esquire last year, the actor said: "Richard Linklater and I are talking about doing a film of King Lear when he’s 90 and I’m 80 and it’ll be the last thing we do before we retire."
Now, speaking to The Independent, Linklater has confirmed these plans
"Yeah. We see the end game. It’s good to have a vision. [It] gives me time to really think about it," the director said. "Lear’s the big one."
Hawke's Linklater credits include The Newton Boys, Tape and 2014's Boyhood .
Reflecting on their working relationship, the director continued: "We just kind of clicked a long time ago - we’re just natural collaborators. We float stuff by each other but nothing ever comes of it; he’ll have a project and I’ll be like ‘Nah, not really my thing’ and it just ends there. We have things that we’ve been developing or working on that may or may not happen.
"Ethan’s just a guy who always has a project. We’re similar that way. So when we connect cinematically, it’s always fun."
Hawke will next be seen in Antonie Fuqua's remake of classic western The Magnificent Seven alongside Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington.
