From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The Oscar-nominated Super Size Me director raised eyebrows when he agreed to work on the film, which received mixed reviews from the critics.
Spurlock has confirmed filming is underway, and revealed Simon Cowell hopes to win an Oscar nomination for the movie this time.
“Yes, there will be a follow-up to This Is Us,” he told The Mirror.
“At this moment Ben Winston is with the band on their world tour filming what happens. He worked with me and is a great producer.”
He added that Cowell was disappointed after This Is Us missed out on an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category for “Best Song Ever”, which One Direction perform in the film.
“I know Simon Cowell wants the band to get awards for this and was upset when they missed out on being nominated in the music category for an Oscar on our film," Spurlock said.
“It was a good song and I was surprised that they weren’t even considered. This time he will want them to try again."
One Direction achieved phenomenal overnight success after coming third on The X Factor 2010 after being hand-picked by Simon Cowell during the audition process.
This Is Us, which follows the boy band on their 2013 worldwide tour, is the fourth highest-grossing concert movie ever, making $28.9m (£48.6m) at the global box office.
