Oscars 2018: Frances McDormand uses acceptance speech to demand inclusion rider from Hollywood

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have announced they will use inclusion riders in all projects by their production company.

According to the head of strategic outreach their company Pearl Street Films Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni, Damon and Affleck will be using inclusion riders for their projects moving forward.

"On behalf of Pearl Street Films, Matt Damon, @BenAffleck, Jennifer Todd, Drew Vinton & I will be adopting the #InclusionRider for all of our projects moving forward," Cox DiGiovanni tweeted on Monday.

Cox DiGiovanni's message was a response to Michael B. Jordan's tweet last week, which declared his production company Outlier Society would be using inclusion riders.

For context, an inclusion rider is used so that there are requirements for gender and racial diversity in contracts.

Actress Frances McDormand brought attention to the idea of the inclusion rider during the 2018 Oscars.

While giving her Best Actress award acceptance speech, McDormand highlighted the idea of an inclusion rider in her monologue.

"I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentlemen: Inclusion rider," she said at the end of her speech.

Since McDormand's speech, Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan revealed that his production company Outlier Society Productions would use inclusion riders on all future projects.

The increased interest in inclusion riders stems from the worldwide discussion of the #MeToo and Time's Up initiatives.
