From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens may only be in the teaser trailer stages, and is still over a year away from theatrical release, but someone already has a tattoo based on it.

22-year-old Jordan Breckon, a student from Arizona, got a ball droid inked on his leg, a character that was seen for 1.5 seconds in the teaser which dropped on Friday.

Other than looking pretty cool there isn't really much cause to grow attached to the lnew robot, so I'm not exactly sure why Jordan chose it, and he'll live to regret it if the droid turns out to be the film's nefarious antagonist rather than the cute sidekick presumed.

Jordan believes he has the first Star Wars 7 tattoo, and earned a Like from the film's official account for it.

"The reaction to this tattoo has been pretty awesome!" he told BuzzFeed.

"Lots and lots of love from…Star Wars fans, many other Instagram users have reposted and [I] have even gotten a like from the Official Star Wars account.

"My artist Tyler Nealeigh and I have both been pleasantly surprised at the reaction [to] my tattoo.

"Of course some people will hate and believe what I did is stupid, but that I already knew would happen as you cannot please everyone!

"In all I love this tattoo and all the love that it’s [received]. It is a great time to be a Star Wars fan!"
