The original 1960 version of classic western The Magnificent Seven - a remake of Japanese classic Seven Samurai - remains as beloved today as it did back then, its ensemble cast (Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen) embedding itself as a must watch for the generations that followed.

It would take a brave soul to even consider touching such a film - however, Training Day director Antoine Fuqua seems to be one filmmaker fit for the task.

Going by the newly released trailer, it seems he may have just pulled off the seemingly impossible feat of putting his unique stamp on such a widely-seen classic - even more impressive in a time when cinema is inundated with pointless remakes.

It helps that Fuqua has assembled quite the stellar a cast that includes his frequent collaborator Denzel Washington (The Equalizer), Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Boyhood actor Ethan Hawke as the west's most feared sharpshooter.

Elsewhere, Terminator: Genisys' Lee Byung-hun and Full Metal Jacket actor Vincent D'Onofrio - recently seen in Netflix series Daredevil - also star as two of the titular gang while Peter Sarsgaard (An Education) takes on villainous duties.

The Magnificent Seven will arrive in cinemas on 23 September.
