Trailer for The Lego Movie 2

The first trailer for The Lego Movie 2 has been released.

Four years after the release of the critically-acclaimed animation, the follow-up is scheduled to arrive in cinemas February 2019 with the subtitle 'The Second Part.'

Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks will return as lead characters Master Builder Emmet Brickowoski and Wyldstyle alongside Jonah Hill (Green Lantern), Channing Tatum (Superman) and Lego Batman himself Will Arnett.

The film sees the characters attempt to save their city five years after Bricksburg was turned into a Mad Max-style wasteland following “the horrific events of Taco Tuesday” leaving them under threat from Lego Duplo invaders from outer space.

There'll also be a new addition in the form of Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz who'll play Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi and Sweet Mayhem, respectively.

Replacing Phil Lord and Chris Miller as directors is Trolls filmmaker Mike Mitchell with the former duo remaining on board as producers. Excitingly, Raphael Bob-Waksberg - the creator of Netflix comedy BoJack Horseman - was hired to re-write the script alongside Mike Fogel.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is set to hit UK cinemas on 8 February 2019.
