Justice League: Henry Cavill offers glimpse at black Superman suit

Is this a major hint as to how Superman will be resurrected in the upcoming team-up film?

Do you remember when characters died in movies, and everyone would at least feign surprise and briefly pretend they wouldn't just be magically resurrected when they're needed next?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's final scene should supposedly be some grand hint that Kal-El (Henry Cavill) hasn't kicked the bucket for good after his noble sacrifice; yet, it looks as if Warner Bros. has given up its last sense of pageantry about the plot twist, and confirmed even further that Superman will be back - presumably vaguely echoing The Death and Return of Superman arc from the comics.

The character was already included in the first image of the fully-formed Justice League, with Cavill himself now dropping a major hint of the nature of his resurrection.

The actor posted an image simply captioned, "#Superman", revealing what appears to be a black Superman suit; further cementing the idea Justice League's arc will echo The Death and Return of Superman storyline, in which Superman's death in battle with Doomsday initially results in four individuals assuming his place.

That portion may not be echoed in Snyder's film, but the suit still hints at what happens when the true Superman returns: popping up dressed in all black with a metallic "S" logo on his chest plate. Also rocking a mullet, because it was the '90s after all, so maybe we'll get some updated version of "cool" Superman hair and he'll be rocking a half-shaved hairstyle.

In that version, he returns as the same Superman everyone knows and adores; however, there is a 2013 arc in which villain Darkseid - who's already been hinted at in Batman v Superman - creates a black-suited clone of Superman who's hellbent on causing destruction.

Indeed, you can pretty much bet all your hard-earned moolah Evil Superman will form some part of the dramatic crux of Justice League. It would have been pretty wildly pointless to kill Superman off only to bring him back in perfect moral shape, and a sinister version of the character also formed part of Batman (Ben Affleck)'s nightmare sequence, with The Flash (Ezra Miller) coming (from the future?) to warn him that he was "always right" about Superman.
