James McAvoy will have no script in new thriller ‘My Son’ starring Claire Foy
Scottish actor will be reacting to moments as they unfold in real time during filming
James McAvoy and Claire Foy are set to star in My Son, an English-language remake of the 2017 French thriller Mon Garçon.
The film will see McAvoy as a father who seeks out the help of his ex-wife (Foy) when his son goes missing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, McAvoy will not be given a script or any dialogue ahead of filming– as was the case in the French original.
The Scottish actor will have a basic understanding of his character’s story, but he will be improvising on set as the scenes unfold.
Adam Fogelson, the chairman of STXfilms who are behind the remake, said: “James will be doing the detective work of the film in real time, on camera, to create real tension for this thriller.”
He added: “We like to support bold and innovative storytelling like My Son, and Claire could not be a more spectacular or exciting choice for this film which is certain to thrill audiences.”
Christian Carion, who directed the French original, will also serve as the director for the forthcoming remake.
A release date for My Son is yet to be announced.
