Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Independence Day director Roland Emmerich has confirmed that Jeff Goldblum will reprise his role of computer expert David Levinson in the upcoming sequel.

Goldlbum is obviously the most important news here, but you might also be interested to know that The Hunger Games' Liam Hemsworth will lend his bearded chops to the sequel, while Jessie Usher will play the son of Will Smith's character Captain Steven Hiller.

"My producing partner Harald Kloser noticed Jessie in between sets of push-ups at the gym and gave him an audition," Emmerich explained.

He added on Facebook: "First you strategically position your pieces, and when the time is right, you strike.” Excited to officially announce Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum as the next two pieces of the Independence Day sequel!"

Now we just need Will Smith on board, who really should be there given how badly After Earth and Focus have performed.

Independence Day 2 is scheduled for a 24 June, 2016 release date.
