The "King Beyond the Wall" will play the father to Miles Teller's Pazienza, according to The Hollywood Reeporter.
The Italian-American boxer, known as "The Pazmanian Devil", was left with a broken neck after he was involved in a car crash - and doctors told him he wold never fight again.
But he made a remarkable recovery and returned to the ring just a year later to beat future world champion Luis Santana.
The film will be written and directed by Ben Younger and will also star Aaron Eckhart as Pazienza's trainer Kevin Rooney.
Martin Scorsese is among the executive producers.
Hinds' past credits also include Disney phenomenon Frozen and The Road to Perdition. He is currently filming Hitman: Agent 47 along with Zachary Quinto and Rupert Friend.
Bleed For This is scheduled for release in 2015.
