Deadpool was the most complained about film of 2016

Most complaints were about violence, language, and sex references

Deadpool has come out on top of a list of 2016's most complained-about films.

The crude superhero was a delight for most fans, but the British Board of Film Classification has revealed that 51 people were less thrilled.

Bloody violence, strong language and explicit sex references were what generated the complaints, according to the report published on 18 July.

The report defended the film's 15 certificate in the UK, noting that the violence was "strong and frequently bloody" but "this often occurs during fast-paced action sequences with little focus on detail".

It added that the sex references were often "comic verbal quips or innuendo". Due to its 15 certification, the sex references and explicit language were deemed acceptable.

The next most complained-about films were Suicide Squad, with 30 complaints, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, with 20.

The majority of complaints about Suicide Squad were over the 15 rating, which meant that young children could not see it, while those concerned about Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children thought that it was too scary for a 12A rating.

Filming is currently underway for Deadpool 2 - Ryan Reynolds revealed in June that Hunt for the Wilderpeople star Julian Dennison has joined the cast.

The movie is being directed by David Leitch from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and also stars Morena Baccarin, T.J Miller, Leslie Uggams and Josh Brolin.

It is set for release in cinemas on 1 June 2018.
