Ryan Reynolds has revealed that Deadpool 3 was originally going to be a crossover between Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Logan (aka Wolverine).

Plans were altered when Fox, the company that owned the cinematic rights to the character, was bought by Disney back in 2019.

The hit franchise, which stars Reynolds as foul-mouthed superhero Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool), is set to be merged into Marvel Studio’s large ongoing series of films, known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, on Twitter, Reynolds gave fans an idea of what they could’ve expected from the third Deadpool film, had it remained under the auspices of Fox.

The actor made the comment to help publicise a Tweet in support of mental health awareness campaign Bell Let’s Talk.

“It’s critical to have open, honest and healthy discussions around mental health. By retweeting #BellLetsTalk you can make a difference,” he wrote. “In case that’s not enough, before Disney bought Fox, Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real.”

Rashomon style” refers to Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 film, in which a single incident is told and re-told from a number of different characters’ perspectives.

Jackman has played Wolverine in nine different X-Men films, including 2017’s Logan, James Mangold’s gritty future-set instalment which was heralded by many as the franchise’s high point.
