Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Warner Home Video is releasing a DVD collection of Clint Eastwood films, Clint Eastwood: 35 Films, 35 Years at Warner Bros, to mark the anniversary of the creative association, on February 16. The 19-disc set includes films from Where Eagles Dare (1968) to Gran Torino (2008), plus featurettes and special extras.
Though not a complete retrospective, Eastwood's entire filmography from Warner Bros. include films he starred in and directed, his Oscar nominees and winners, and genres from westerns to comedies. As he approaches 80, some believe his last decade of films reflect his most creative period.
Eastwood's tough guy persona on screen in films such as the Oscar-winning Unforgiven, and the Dirty Harry series is defied with his behind-the-camera choices, like Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby. This selection of films reveals his complexity from The Bridges of Madison County to Space Cowboys. His current film Invictus or the upcoming Hereafter, a supernatural thriller also starring Matt Damon are not in the collection.
Also featured is a short documentary, Eastwood Factor, by Time magazine critic and historian Richard Schickel revealing a rare intimate view of the iconic filmmaker, who has received recognition including the Golden Globes, AFI and the French Legion of Honor.
An excerpt of Schickel's upcoming book Clint: A Retrospective, due in April, is also part of the package with insider details. The suggested retail price is $179.98, though amazon.com is offering a discount at a cost of $129.99.
