BBC iPlayer has added more than 20 classics produced by film studio RKO Pictures.

The distributor that produced some of the biggest films in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s was one of the five big production companies in existence during Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Among the films that have been added are the original King Kong, musical Top Hat and Citizen Kane, the Orson Wells drama considered one of the greatest films ever made.

Others include Bringing Up Baby, the screwball comedy starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant, as well as Alfred Hitchcock film Suspicion.

Speaking about the addition of these films, Dan McGolpin – controller of BBC iPlayer – said: “It’s really exciting to bring this fantastic selection of classic movies from RKO Pictures to viewers on BBC iPlayer.

“Many people can now discover these inspiring pieces of cinema for the first time and will see some of Hollywood’s finest performances from its best loved stars.”
