Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder explains how a deleted scene fills in a major plot hole

Batman v Superman has been out for some time now and fans are anxious for director Zack Snyder to explain some of the plot’s faults.

One question that has arisen numerous time is **Spoilers ahead** if Superman was able to hear/sense Lois Lane being captured in the Middle East and falling off a building in Metropolis, why wasn’t he able to hear his mum being kidnapped by Lex Luthor?

Luckily, the guys over at IGN were able to ask the director why he can’t hear his mum’s screams, to which Snyder revealed there was actually a deleted scene explaining exactly that.

“I think all the way – to me, from Metropolis to Smallville is probably just on the edge of his range of hearing. Also, the clutter of the city makes it difficult as well.

"We had a scene that we cut from the movie where he tries to look for her when he finds out that Lex has got her. It was a slightly dark scene that we cut out because it sort of represented this dark side. Because when he was looking for his mum he heard all the cries of all the potential crimes going on in the city, you know when you look.

“I kind of like the idea that he’s taught himself not to look because if he looks it’s just neverending, right? You have to know when, as Superman, when to intervene and when not to. Or not when not to, you can’t be everywhere at once, literally you can’t be everywhere at once, so he has to be really selective in a weird way about where he chooses to interfere.”

Looking for his mother would have therefore been sensory overload for the superhero, yet this doesn’t explain why he was able to know exactly where Lois was the whole time. Perhaps he’s just a stalker.

This also doesn’t sit well with Superman’s comic book ideology, where he’s supposed to be a beacon of hope for all in danger. Shutting out those suffering seems to defeat the purpose in being a superhero, doesn’t it? If we look at Daredevil, with sensory powers, he goes out every night trying to save those in the city. You would think, with his God-like powers, Superman would be doing the same.
