From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Warner Bros. chief Kevin Tsujihara has confirmed that Ben Affleck’s Batman will be getting a standalone film which is to be helmed by the Argo director himself.
The project has been rumoured for a while, but now we have confirmation, with Tsujihara telling an excited audience at CinemaCon: ”We're working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman movie.”
The move isn’t surprising, given Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has already raked in $785.8 million at the global box office, but Affleck still has a difficult task ahead of him given the tide of frustration from critics and fans over the film.
While the new movie will still have to tie in with the other DC universe films slated, it will be interesting to see whether he takes the opportunity to give fans a more complete film, something Batman v Superman crucially missed - essentially serving as a trailer for Justice League.
As for the release date, we can be pretty certain it will hit on 5 October, 2018, one of two dates scheduled recently for ‘untitled’ DC films (the other being 1 November, 2019).
This will follow Suicide Squad, which we got an action-packed new trailer for (feature Batman) yesterday.
