Baftas 2018 nominations: British stars dominate leading actor category

With the Golden Globes all done-and-dusted, it's time for awards season to hit UK shores, as the BAFTAs gear up to announce this year's nominations.

They'll be revealed in full on 9 January at London's own Princess Anne Theatre, with the help of stars Natalie Dormer and Letitia Wright, starting from 7.30am; you can livestream the event from BAFTA's official Facebook page.

Lady Bird and Get Out have been many a prognosticator's picks, though Three Billboards at Ebbing, Missouri's dominance at the Golden Globes (winning Best Drama, Best Actress - Drama, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Screenplay) could launch it ahead as a new awards favourite. Surely, however, directors Jordan Peele and Greta Gerwig can land Best Director nods? Or does Natalie Portman need to come back and teach everyone a lesson again?

The livestream will also see the new BAFTA host revealed, after Stephen Fry stepped down to "let others take the BAFTAs on to new heights and greater glories”. The comedian had previously hosted 12 BAFTA ceremonies since 2001.

One category that won't be announced is the EE Rising Star Award, voted by the public, which has already been announced to be a contest between Daniel Kaluuya, Florence Pugh, Josh O’Connor, Timothée Chalamet and Tessa Thompson.

The EE British Academy Film Awards will take place on Sunday, 18 February at the Royal Albert Hall. Sponsored by EE, the Awards will be broadcast exclusively on BBC One and BBC One HD.
