Aladdin 2019 trailer

Disney has unveiled the first look at its Aladdin remake.

The film, directed by Guy Ritchie and featuring a script by John August (Corpse Bride, Big Fish), will be a live-action take on Disney's own version of the classic folktale of One Thousand and One Nights fame, in which street orphan Aladdin pretends to be a prince in order to win the hand of Princess Jasmine.

The original 1992 animated film, which featured the voice of Robin Williams as Genie, won two Academy Awards and earned $504m worldwide.

The cast features Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Will Smith as Genie, Billy Magnussen as an unnamed character, and Nasim Pedrad as Mara, Jasmine's handmaiden.

Alongside classics like "A Whole New World", the film will feature new songs from La La Land duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and original composer Alan Menken. Jasmine will have a new solo song, alongside a new duet for Aladdin and Jasmine and a new verse for opener "Arabian Nights".
