Adam Driver's next role after Kylo Ren to be... a bus driver

He'll be jumping on board Paterson, the latest flick from indie legend Jim Jarmusch.

From the galaxy's number 1 spoiled brat to a New Jersey bus driver.

Deadline reports Adam Driver's hopped on board of Amazon Studios' second original film after Spike Lee's Chi-Raq, Jim Jarmusch's own wry comedy Paterson. 

He'll play the film's titular Paterson; a bus driver who lives in (wait for it) Paterson, New Jersey and finds himself enrolled in the most routine of existences. A stark contrast to his wife, played by Golshifteh Farahani (Body of Lies), whose world and goals are forever fluctuating. The story will supposedly take place over the course of a single week. 

It's reassuring to see Driver return to familiar material from his pre-Star Wars days; though once most familiar for his part in Lena Dunham's Girls, he's also been filing in stellar performance after stellar performance for the likes of Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha, While We're Young) and the Coen Brothers (Inside Llewyn Davis). 

Indeed, Jarmusch feels the most natural of next steps for the star. Though still on a roll with the likes of 2013's Only Lovers Left Alive, the director was a key influencer of independent cinema since the 1980s thanks to the likes of Stranger Than Paradise and Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. If Driver really wants to be indie darling, it's about time he ticked Jarmusch off the list.

Already under Driver's belt is Martin Scorcese's long-awaited Silence; starring alongside the likes of Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield, bound to prove a guaranteed boost to Driver's already burgeoning prestige. He can also be seen in Jeff Nichol's upcoming Midnight Special, starring Kirsten Dunst and Michael Shannon.

Though Lee's Chi-Raq is yet to hit theatres in the UK, Amazon did support a US theatrical release before releasing the film on its streaming service; the same is promised with Paterson. A representative from financiers K5 International stated; "Amazon’s support for Jim and the film shows not just a true dedication to great filmmaking talent but also their commitment to give the film huge theatrical support to enable Paterson to reach the widest possible audience."
