As MoviePass grapples with outages, here are three movie subscription alternatives
Movie-lovers can choose from alternative subscription services if MoviePass shuts down
MoviePass was revolutionary in getting people to the movies again, thanks to its subscription-service model that let customers see one movie a day, every day, for less than $10 a month.
Unfortunately, the incredible deal doesn’t appear to be sustainable as MoviePass grapples with outages and outraged customers.
However, while MoviePass may offer the best deal when it comes to movie-viewing, other, similar services exist for movie-lovers looking for a replacement.
AMC Stubs A-List
AMC Theatres is the largest theatre chain the world - and it has its very own MoviePass-esque subscription service.
Although slightly more expensive at $19.95 a month, with a cap of three movies per week, the AMC version appears to have what it takes to sustain the service.
Customers can use their tickets to see any movie format, including IMAX, 3D, and AMC Prime. The service also offers subscribers a 10 per cent discount on food and drinks - and it can be used at any of AMC’s more than 600 locations.
There are no blackout dates, but there is a three-month minimum commitment.
Cinemark Movie Club
This subscription is affordable at $9 a month - but it comes with limitations.
For the $9, you get one discounted movie ticket a month. However, you can use your membership to buy discounted additional tickets for friends - and everyone will receive 20 per cent off concessions if you scan your card.
A bonus perk of the service is that unused credits roll over month-to-month.
Sinemia
Sinemia has multiple pricing models and customers can choose which one suits them best.
For $3.99, you receive one ticket per month or two tickets for $7.99 per month, if you sign up for one of the Classic plans.
With an Elite plan, customers receive two or three tickets a month, one of which can be used for 3D movies - although the price is a bit higher, starting at $9.99 a month.
Family plans start at $7.99 per month.
The service is currently offering a summer sale - and there are no blackout dates or limits on titles.

Show all 2Customers also don’t have to commit to a plan longer than a month - although they will be required to pay a $20 initiation fee if they don’t.
Or, movie-aficionados can still opt for a MoviePass subscription.
Although the company is currently going through some “technical difficulties,” and introducing new business models on an almost-weekly basis, the deal is still the best - as long as you aren’t interested in seeing just-released movies, as they may be subjected to the company’s new “peak pricing.”
