Oscar winner Penelope Cruz made it to the Hollywood Domino party at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday night, despite a bout of food poisoning earlier in the day.

The Spanish star is in the south of France promoting her new movies, Nine and Broken Embraces, her latest collaboration with Pedro Almodovar.

She was joined by other celebrity guests including Paris Hilton and her boyfriend, Doug Reinhardt, Peaches Geldof, Lily Cole, Orlando Bloom and his girlfriend, Miranda Kerr, David Furnish and Gedeon Burkhard and Omar Doom, stars of the new Tarantino film, Inglourious Basterds, who played a Hollywood Domino tournament, in aid of Bono's (Red) charity, which fights against Aids in Africa.

The party was held at The House at Cannes, a beautiful 100-year-old private residence with wallpaper especially designed by Eley Kishimoto, just 10 minutes from the Promenade de la Croisette. It had a red-carpet reception lined with flaming torches and the cypress trees were lit up in shades of red and gold.

The tournament took place in the first-floor living room, overlooking an infinity pool, where wild-child duo Hilton and Geldof were seen chatting. The pair had not met before but got on so well that they exchanged phone numbers.

Music was provided by the London group Urban Soul Orchestra, a contemporary string ensemble with a repertoire of funky arrangements, as well as Jose Carretas, a resident DJ for Damon Albarn's Gorillaz.

The ailing Cruz left after a few hours because she felt unwell, while Furnish, who won the tournament, walked away with his prize: a load of fine jewellery, vodka and caviar. Elton should have a grand time.
