Bruce Springsteen announces autobiography, predictably names it Born to Run

The title is taken from The Boss' 1975 breakthrough single and album

Bruce Springsteen has announced he is to release an autobiography named after his 1975 breakthrough album and single, Born to Run.

The Boss agreed a $10m (£7m) deal with publisher Simon & Schuster and revealed he has been working on the autobiography since his Super Bowl halftime show performance alongside the E Street Band in 2009.

In a statement from his website, Born to Run will focus on the singer's upbringing in Freehold, New Jersey "...amid the 'poetry, danger and darkness' that fuelled his imagination."

"He vividly recounts his relentless drive to become a musician, his early days as a bar band king in Asbury Park, and the rise of the E Street Band," the statement explains.

Currently touring to mark an expanded re-release of his 1980 album The River, Springsteen began his career hyped as the “new Dylan” before forging his own unique strand of anthemic, blue-collar rock, often telling stories of working-class hardship, which have latterly displayed traditional folk influences.

The book is due to be released on 27 September; we hope he's dedicated a chapter to this moment.
