Your support makes all the difference.One of America's largest book festivals, the 27th annual Miami International Book Fair, November 14-21, will host readings, interviews and discussions with a diverse group of 350 authors including filmmakers John Waters and Nora Ephron, rocker Patti Smith, and former US President George W. Bush.
The week-long event, timed each year for big holiday releases, has scheduled renowned authors such as Salman Rushdie, speaking on his latest novel Luka and the Fire of Life, and Jonathan Franzen, recently on the cover of Time Magazine for his novel Freedom.
Other bestselling authors appearing include Peter Maass, Scott Turow, James Ellroy, Walter Mosley, Gay Talese, Dave Eggars, Pat Conroy, Michael Cunningham, and Sebastian Junger.
The event's Latin American series includes appearances by Paquito D´Rivera (Cuba-USA), Alberto Fuguet (Chile) and Claudia Piñeiro (Argentina). This year also celebrates the literature and culture of Mexico, featuring Carlos Fuentes.
A showing of other international authors includes several African writers: Zakes Mda (South Africa), Binyavanga Wainana (Kenya), Okey Ndibe (Nigeria), EC Osandu (Nigeria) and more.
Music writers include impresario Emilio Estefan (Gloria's husband), author of The Rhythm of Success; and during the evening program rapper Jay-Z will discuss his debut book Decoded via satellite.
The 2010 Miami Book Fair International takes place downtown on the Miami Dade College campus. Highlights at the weekend street fair include the Children's Alley and Comix Galaxy with more than 200 exhibitors.
