Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today...

The Africa Oyé Festival is a free celebration of African music and culture in Liverpool this weekend. Eat and drink your way around the continent to the sounds of reggae, jazz and more (africaoye.com).

This week...

Musical treats also await visitors to London. The Exhibition Road Music Day on Sunday brings free sounds to the institutions of South Kensington, from South American Baroque at the Victoria and Albert Museum to a junk band extravaganza at the Science Museum (exhibitionroadmusicday.org). In the US, the annual Utah Arts Festival in Salt Lake City is on from Thursday to Sunday. Features include a school of rock, writing workshops, spoken word, film and music (uaf.org).

In the diary...

The All Nations Festival in Berlin on 4 July lets visitors go behind the scenes at the city's embassies, from Kenya to Kyrgystan. Each participating diplomatic mission will be displaying their national headdress, along with a programme of cultural events (allnationsfestival. de). In Malaysian Borneo, the annual Sarawak World Music Festival starts on 10 July, with performers converging at a cultural village to play for three days (rainforestmusic- borneo.com).
