Low-fare airline easyJet enjoyed a big rise in passenger numbers last month, it was announced today.

The no-frills carrier carried 5.42 million people in July 2011 - an 8.1% increase on its July 2010 total.

A total of 53.76 million passengers flew with the airline in the 12 months ending July 2011 - a 12% rise on the previous 12 months.

EasyJet's planes flew 91.7% full in July compared with 90.9% in the month last year.
