OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

In the 1st arrondissement amid the handsome arcades of rue de Rivoli, close to Tuileries and Concorde Métro stations. You couldn't get more central, and most of what you want to see in Paris is within walking distance, including the nearby historic squares of Place de la Concorde and Place Vendôme. Close by, you'll find the fashion-filled shops of rue Saint Honoré, the masterpiece-packed Musée du Louvre, the très élegant Palais Royal and, just across the river, the mighty Musée d'Orsay.

By plane: fly from London to Paris in 1 hour 15 minutes; Eurostar takes 2 hours 25 minutes from London St Pancras. The hotel is a 30-minute taxi ride from the airport. Book flights to Paris.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Think 18th-century elegance with a contemporary verve, which is most obvious in the Philippe Starck-designed public areas that nod playfully to the surreal world of Salvador Dalí, a regular guest for over 30 years. Sparkling chandeliers, gold-framed paintings and abundant mirrors are paired with theatrical flourishes and stimulating artworks to set a light and entertaining tone.

THE FACILITIES

A 32ft-long desk in reception serves as the command post for this luxurious sanctum and is staffed by smartly uniformed staff who have the best of Paris at their fingertips. Children are made welcome with gifts and surprises and a 'Family Time' package is available. There is a fitness centre next to the spa.

The quality is equally high in the less formal Restaurant Le Dalí adjoining the lobby, while Bar 228 has live music and vintage Dom Pèrignon champagne by the glass.
