Still central, but away from the bustle, it's near main sights like the Anne Frank House, Dam and Centraal Station. Spread over two old canal houses, this hotel is cosy and welcoming. The little lobby area looks out to the canal, and there's a pleasant seating area with a long mustard yellow banquette, long communal and small tables, and retro chairs. Black and white photos of aspects of Amsterdam line the olive green walls up the staircases.

The staff are young, friendly and helpful. There's no bar or restaurant, spa or gym, but breakfast is served in a pleasant room with both communal as well as individual seating.

The rooms vary in size and shape. Neutrally decorated in whites, creams, browns and greys, they're not huge, which is fine considering the value for money. There's a comfortable bed, a small desk area, a small safe, small TV and a little desk area. Shower rooms, though compact, are spotless.
