OUR REVIEW
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
In the small, largely residential, community of Ben Rhydding, to the east of Ilkley, the inn is on a quiet residential road that leads up to Ilkley Moor. A handful of shops is a couple of minutes' walk, the railway station five minutes' while Ilkley town centre is a mile-and-a-half away, or one stop on the train. The famous Ilkley Moor, with the striking Cow and Calf rocks - beloved of novice rock-climbers - is a brisk 20-minute uphill walk, and five minutes by car.
By car: around 1 hour 45 minutes from Sheffield, 3 hours from Birmingham and 5 hours from London.
By train: around 4 hours from London (via Leeds) and 2 hours from Doncaster. The hotel is a 4 minute walk from Ben Rhydding station. Book trains to Ben Rhydding station.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
The solid Victorian building with big bay windows and a central tower was built when Ilkley was a flourishing spa town. Interiors have a modern country-inn look with stripped-wood and tartan-carpeted floors, mismatched chairs, log burners in stone fireplaces and brightly patterned upholstered chairs. An eclectic mix of advertising posters, local artwork, mirrors and vintage tea caddies decorate walls and shelves.
THE FACILITIES
The open-plan ground floor wraps around the bar with semi-separate areas for drinking, eating and relaxing, all with large windows. A large terrace, with tables and chairs, faces south; a great spot to recover after a walk on the moors. Equally welcome is the homemade cake on the bar.

FOOD AND DRINK
This is well-above-average pub cooking with freshly prepared dishes such as pork fillet tenderloin with black pudding mash, and roast cod in a lemon butter sauce, as well as classics including gammon steak, burger, and fish and chips. The bar has a couple of guest Yorkshire ales as well as beers from Lancashire-based Robinsons Brewery which owns the inn.
