OVERVIEW

Welcome to a white-washed model village to call your very own. This mirage of a five-star, adults-only hotel offers a retreat from Tenerife's famous resorts. The northwest of the island is a world away from the likes of Costa Adeje, and Hotel Hacienda del Conde is just as upmarket.

OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Hotel Hacienda del Conde is more or less equidistant to both island airports, with Tenerife North a shade nearer at one hour's drive. Buenavista del Norte is more of an agricultural area than a resort, as a visit to its Saturday craft-meets-farmers' market, Mercado del Agricultor y Artesano, will prove. The reassuringly ocean-tasting soupy rice dish, arroz caldoso, is made for two at La Caleta de Interián's beachside Mundial 82.

By plane: flights from London, Birmingham and Manchester to Tenerife take around 4 hours 30 mins. The hotel is a 1 hour 10 minute drive from Tenerife South airport. Book flights to Tenerife.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

In 2021, this boutique hotel became Spain's first member of the newly-created Meliá Collection and is one of the most unique hotels belonging to the brand. The design is a neo-classical recognition of traditional Canarian architecture. It's styled along the lines of your typical Tenerife pueblo. The ambience is one of complete relaxation.

THE FACILITIES

Young, attentive staff are as sharp as their casual-meets-formal uniform in shades of brown and khaki. The up-top reception leads down to excellent facilities. These include two swimming pools, a solarium resembling Lanzarote's La Geria volcanic vineyards with Balinese beds, an outdoor and indoor gym, a botanic garden and yoga deck.

BED AND BATH

Spacious and stylish rooms are divided into two categories: junior suites and suites. The Tenerife Government set up Merkarte to promote young artists under the age of 30 and there are iconic paintings from this school depicting Canarian flora adorning the walls, which can be purchased in the lobby.

Room types: Premier Room, Singular Junior Suite, Singular Junior Suite Golf Unlimited, Suite, Suite with Whirlpool Bath, Cycling Junior Suite

Key amenities: ensuite shower or bath, tea and coffee facilities, TV, hairdryer, desk, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

The Buffet Buenavista offers help-yourself breakfast and dinner in sumptuous surroundings, especially if you opt for the external Pergola seating area. Snack on casual bites at the El Pandano Pool Bar. There is a room service menu if you get the munchies, which includes the classic cheese and ham toastie.

Buenavista: buffet breakfast and dinner, diverse seasonal cuisine.

Salazar: à la carte dining, combining local ingredients and Asian flavours.

La Tasca: tapas and fine wines.
