OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

With lovely views over the valleys and pretty Capdepera village's castle little more than a mile away, as a rural location this hotel scores highly. The nearest train station is Manacor, a 40-minute drive from the hotel. Sandy beaches are a ten-minute drive, for example at Son Moll, Cala Moltó and Cala Agulla. The seaside resort of Cala Ratjada and the town of Artà are nearby. There are four golf courses in the area and scenic walking routes. On Avinguda d'Amèrica in Cala Ratjada, Italian cuisine is on offer at Pasta Pasta, while tapas bar Noah's Lounge on the same street is another option.

By plane: there are direct flights from London (2 hours 25 mins), Manchester (2 hours 40 mins) and Edinburgh (3 hours). The hotel is a 60-minute drive from Palma de Mallorca airport. Free parking is available onsite. Book flights to Mallorca.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

As well as the pretty main stone building, with its attractive blue shutters, there are further smaller ones, refurbished well to make comfortable guest rooms and suites. The airy interiors boast an abundance of natural materials, with wooden floors, old beams and exposed stone combined with soothing neutral items like palm baskets, wicker hangings, rugs, and fabrics in muted shades to create a pleasing effect.

THE FACILITIES

There's not a huge selection of facilities at this hotel (for example, no gym, spa or bar), but it's not that kind of place anyway. If you want a relaxing stay in the country it has all you need: an inviting pool lined with sun loungers, free bikes available to explore the quiet local roads or head for the beach, and a choice of an excellent bistro and a more formal restaurant headed by Michelin-starred chef Andreu Genestra.

BED AND BATH

Many of the rooms and suites come with their own terrace, and all are typically decorated in minimalist style in creams and beiges, with hardwood floors, perhaps an exposed stone wall or wicker wall hanging. Bathrooms are quite spacious, typically with a freestanding bath and a separate rain shower.

FOOD AND DRINK

With two restaurants helmed by a Michelin-starred chef, who used to work at el Bulli, you can be sure you won't be disappointed by the food and drink. Using fresh, seasonal local ingredients - indeed, many come from the property's own kitchen garden, olive grove and vineyard - even the simplest thing is special. For example, the bread comes with homemade smoked butter as you've never tasted before. The hotel's own wine is impressive, and there's a good breakfast spread, too.

Andreu Genestra: Michelin-starred dining, blending Mediterranean ingredients with sophisticated techniques. Open daily. Tasting menu from €105.
