From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Sky's phone and internet service has stopped working in some parts of the north west, the company says.

For users across the wirral, connections have gone down and landline calls and web connections are not working, it said.

Users said the issues have lasted for more than an hour at the time of publication.

In a tweet, Sky said it would update customers when there was a change to their service.

Users in "Arrowebrook, Birkenhead, Bromborough, Caldy, Claughton, Eastham, Ellesmere Port, Helsby, Hooton, Mountwood, Neston, Rock Ferry, and Wallasey" are affected, it said in the post. But many Sky customers posted replies to that tweet making clear there were problems in other parts of the Wirral.

Sky's service status page makes clear that it is aware of the issue and that it is working to fix it.

"You might not be able to get online or make/receive phone calls due to a problem in your local area," a message reads. "We're working on fixing the problem and we'll provide an update on this page once we've discovered what is causing the fault. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused."

There does not appear to be issues with Sky's TV service.
