Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Apple has held a major event to release a whole host of new products.

New versions of the iPad, iMac, and AirPods were unveiled, as well as the first official announcement of Apple’s AirTags for item tracking.

Other announcements included a new iPhone colour and updates for Apple TV, Apple Card and the Podcasts app.

As with all Apple’s events in recent times, it took the form of a pre-recorded video in which Apple executives introduced the new products from its Apple Park campus.

The event comes amid big growth in Apple’s share price since the start of April that has boosted its market cap to $2.24 trillion (£1.6tn), ranking it as the world’s most valuable company.

Apple’s long-rumoured AirTags are finally here.

They’ll cost $29 and will be available from 30 April. A four pack will cost $99.

With close to 750,000 people currently watching the live stream, Apple is taking the opportunity to run a 3 minute trailer for its Apple TV series Ted Lasso.

Next up is Apple TV 4K, which will “deliver the highest video quality possible” thanks to the A12 Bionic chip.

A new colour balance feature will also improve the TV’s picture quality by scanning it with your iPhone 12.

One of the most interesting upgrades is “the best camera... best mic... and best sound system ever in an iMac”.

That’s a welcome addition in this new world of remote working and video conferences.

The new keyboard also comes with a TouchID button in the top right, to help secure online purchases.
