From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The second round proved the end of the road for Heather Watson as she was knocked out by Anett Kontaveit early in the day, with former men's Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka also a shock exit on Wednesday afternoon. Karolina Pliskova successfully negotiated Monica Puig on Centre Court, with Kyle Edmund the biggest casualty losing to Fernando Verdasco before Novak Djokovic takes on Denis Kudla.
However, all eyes will be on No 2 Court where 15-year-old Gauff returns to action fresh from her incredible victory over Venus Williams. Follow all the action and results live.

*Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-6 Verdasco
A hold to love, Edmund didn't get a look-in.
Into a breaker, first to 7...
*Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-6 Verdasco (1-2)
They both win a point against serve, before Edmund slices a forehand into the net. 2-1 Verdasco.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-6 Verdasco* (3-2)
Scorching winner by Verdasco on the forehand down the line gives him the mini-break...
Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-6 Verdasco* (4-2)
After a net-cord mid-rally, Edmund then slams a forehand in the net.
Verdasco with the advantage at the change of ends.
*Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-6 Verdasco (2-5)
Edmund this time with a backhand into the net, going for a winner down the line.
A tad rash by Kyle, and this breaker is drifting away from him...
*Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-6 Verdasco (2-6)
VERDASCO HAS FOUR SET POINTS, as Edmund goes long with a backhand, after a lengthy rally.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7(3) Verdasco*
VERDASCO WINS THE THIRD SET!
Edmund saves the first on his own serve, but Verdasco clinches the set with an ace out wide which rips off the chalk!
The Spaniard is back in it, only trailing by a set now.
Frankly, Edmund only has himself to blame for a sloppy giveaway of serve, as well as a poor tiebreak by his standards.
*Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7(3) 0-1 Verdasco
Verdasco holds with ease to start the fourth set.
How the momentum has swung.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7(3) 0-2 Verdasco*
VERDASCO BREAKS!
Blimey how this match has swung... Edmund is broken to 15, and has completely lost his radar!
Verdasco, on the other hand, has found a second wind. He has the early initiative.
*Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7(3) 1-2 Verdasco
Out of nowhere, EDMUND BREAKS BACK!
Verdasco is 30-15 up, but Edmund fights valiantly, forcing errors from the Spaniard and eventually, Edmund finishes him up down the line on the backhand side.
And we're back on serve. Topsy-turvy to say the least!
