From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Murray won his first match in the men's doubles alongside Pierre-Hugues Herbert as the pair prevailed 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-0. Murray will return to the court on Friday alongside Williams after the American recovered from losing the first set to Slovenian qualifier Kaja Juvan.
Elsewhere, Nadal's blockbuster clash with hothead Nick Kyrgios lived up to its billing with a fiery encounter both on court and afterwards. Johanna Konta beat Katerina Siniakova to reach the third round, while Roger Federer ended the hopes of British hopeful Jay Clarke in the day’s second match on No 1 Court.

MATCHES TO BE ARRANGED

1 Marius Copil (ROU) / Ugo Humbert (FRA) 29 vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA) / Andy Murray (GBR) 30
COURT 1 UPDATE
Andy Murray has won his first set on his Wimbledon comeback. He and his partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert have levelled things up, after taking the second set 6-1 against Marius Copil and Ugo Humbert. A reminder that men's doubles at Wimbledon is best-of-five sets...
Nick Kyrgios in his post-match press conference:
"I left it all out there. He played well in those moments, that's why he's a true champion.
Kyrgios then spots a journalist who was at the Dog & Fox last night! Everyone is in stitches!
On Bernard Tomic being docked all of his prize money:
"It's a little rough, I think it's outrageous"
On why he didn't do anymore overarm serves:
"If I do something outrageous, I get killed in the media. So I thought I''d be professional."
On why he didn't apologise to Rafa for hitting him:
"I don't care. Why would I apologise. I was going for him, I wanted to hit him square in the chest."
"The umpire today was horrendous. Why should I wait when I'm serving for Rafa to get into his rhythm, it's meant to be 'play to the speed of the server.'"
On why his preparation:
"I haven't trained enough, don't do enough gym. But I like the way I do things, but for me, tennis isn't so important."
Rafael Nadal, in his post-match press conference:
About when he was hit by the ball by Kyrgios:
"The history of this sport is respect."
"It's dangerous. Not dangerous for me, but for the line umpire or someone else. This ball can go anywhere - it hits me, no problem."
"I'm not angry at him, but I just wanted to play a game of tennis."
COURT 1 UPDATE
Andy Murray and his partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert have won the third set, 6-4, against Marius Copil and Ugo Humbert. They are now 2 sets to 1 up.
But they're now closing the roof on Court 1, due to bad light.
We're back underway on Court No.1, and it's deuce on Humbert's service game.
Good chance for Murray and Herbert.
Copil/Humbert 6-4 1-6 4-6 0-1 Herbert/Murray*
HERBERT/MURRAY BREAK!
A genius shot from Herbert, an angled drop shot when he was running towards the baseline, and it's advantage to 'Merbert' in the fourth set!
Copil/Humbert 6-4 1-6 4-6 0-4 Herbert/Murray*
A hold to love for the two-time singles champion (and his partner Herbert)... two games from victory now.
Copil/Humbert 6-4 1-6 4-6 0-5 Herbert/Murray*
And that should be that, HERBERT/MURRAY BREAK!
A break to 15, some inspired returning from both men in that game.
A triple break lead - Herbert now serving, for the match, and a place in round two
