From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Murray won his first match in the men's doubles alongside Pierre-Hugues Herbert as the pair prevailed 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-0. Murray will return to the court on Friday alongside Williams after the American recovered from losing the first set to Slovenian qualifier Kaja Juvan.
Elsewhere, Nadal's blockbuster clash with hothead Nick Kyrgios lived up to its billing with a fiery encounter both on court and afterwards. Johanna Konta beat Katerina Siniakova to reach the third round, while Roger Federer ended the hopes of British hopeful Jay Clarke in the day’s second match on No 1 Court.

MATCHES TO BE ARRANGED
NOT BEFORE 17.30
1 Marius Copil (ROU) / Ugo Humbert (FRA) 29 vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA) / Andy Murray (GBR) 30
*Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7(5) 2-2 Nadal
Drama at the start of the game, as Rafa challenges an out call that was corrected to be in. Challenge shows it's in, but they replay the point... confused? You're not the only one.
Anyway, Rafa storms to 30-0, but Kyrgios has a chance at 30-15 but misses a backhand long...
Nadal double faults at 40-15, but an ace down the T seals the game.
COURT 1 UPDATE
Andy Murray, and his partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert, are a break down in the first set to Marius Copil and Ugo Humbert, 4-3.
Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7(5) 3-2 Nadal*
Kyrgios holds to 30 - he's still battling out here, and his serve is making it extremely difficult for Nadal to get himself into the rallies.
Still nip and tuck.
*Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7(5) 3-3 Nadal
Nadal holds to love with ease - a trademark whipped forehand down the line to clinch it.
The way things are going, you'd have to say another tiebreak is pretty likely here...
Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7(5) 4-3 Nadal*
Kyrgios holds to love, with two aces and two returns not in play.
At 40-0 there, a bird flew into the service box, and the ballboy ran towards it to make sure it vacated... it brought a smile to Kyrgios, and 15,000 in Centre Court.
*Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7(5) 4-4 Nadal
Slightly tougher for Nadal on that occasion, but he holds to 30.
There were a few half-chances there for Kyrgios but nothing clear-cut - it's going to take some majestic tennis for one of them to break here...
Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7(5) 5-4 Nadal*
Kyrgios also holds to 30.
Nadal had 30-30, but an ace and a drop shot which was returned with a drop shot into the net by Nadal, means the Spaniard will now serve to stay in the set.
Gripped.
COURT 1 UPDATE
Andy Murray and Pierre-Hugues Herbert have lost the first set, 6-4, to Marius Copil and Ugo Humbert.
