Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

An entry of 300 sailors makes the National Clubs Championship at Rutland Water, Leicestershire, the biggest windsurfing event held in Britain this year. Brogborough Boardsailing Club, from Bedfordshire, have won the title since the event began three years ago, but this year 39 clubs are chasing them. Indeed, several clubs, including Queen Mary, Grafham Water and Chase Water, are entering up to three teams to improve their chances of upsetting Brogborough. Rutland Water, one of the largest reservoirs in Britain, offers safe windsurfing, but experience will be a factor in the inconsistent winds encountered inland. The entire fleet of 300 starts together from the same line.

How to get there: Whitwell, Rutland Water, Leicestershire, is signposted off A606 Stamford to Oakham road from A1. Seven races are scheduled over the weekend, starting at 11.30am tomorrow, continuing until 5pm. On Sunday, competition is from 10am to 3pm.
