Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The surrounding streets were less congested and the stands were not so high. But on January 15, 1910, the crowds filled Twickenham to witness the first ever international fixture held at the stadium.

The teams taking to the field that day were the very same sides that meet at the home of rugby this weekend: England v Wales.

The opening game of the 2010 Six Nations championship marks 100 years of international rugby at the iconic ground and the Rugby Football Union are preparing to celebrate the milestone.

For Saturday's match, England will be wearing a special centenary kit, reminiscent of the strip the side wore in 1910.

The RFU have also teamed up with Vision Sports Publishing to publish the official book celebrating the rich history of the world's most famous and iconic rugby stadium.

The coffee-table style book is packed with classic photographs from the RFU's own archives, many of which can be seen by clicking here . The book also tells the story of how an isolated orchard developed into one of the world's most famous stadiums, plus looks back at some of the legends and famous matches to have taken place on the turf in TW1.

On that historic day in 1910, England ran out 11-6 winners. Martin Johnson will be hoping that it's not just the kits that are reminiscent of that game come Saturday.

Twickenham - 100 Years of Rugby's HQ is published by Vision Sports Publishing on the 6 February 2010, RRP £30, ISBN 9781905326761
