Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Danny Cipriani will make his first England start in a decade as they look to avoid what would be a humiliating 3-0 whitewash series defeat against South Africa.
Having lost the first Test in Johannesburg and the second last week in Bloemfontein, England face one last chance to secure a victory against the Springboks at Cape Town’s Newlands Stadium in what has been a compelling Test series. Head coach Eddie Jones has elected to make a significant change at fly-half as Cipriani replaces George Ford – who doesn’t even make the replacements’ bench – while Joe Marler replaces Mako Vunipola and Nathan Hughes in for Billy Vunipola as the brothers have returned to the UK. The final change is illness-enforced as Brad Shields is replaced by Chris Robshaw.
South Africa have also made changes – five in total – as Chiliboy Ralepelle, Elton Jantjies, Andre Esterhuizen, Jesse Kriel, and Warrick Gelant all start, while Schalk Brits comes out of retirement for one last game as he is named on the bench.

England: Elliot Daly; Jonny May, Henry Slade, Owen Farrell, Mike Brown; Danny Cipriani, Ben Youngs; Joe Marler, Jamie George, Kyle Sinckler; Joe Launchbury, Maro Itoje; Chris Robshaw, Tom Curry, Nathan Hughes.
Replacements: Luke Cowan-Dickie, Alec Hepburn, Harry Williams, Jonny Hill, Mark Wilson, Sam Simmonds, Ben Spencer, Denny Solomona.
40 mins: England are pinged for not rolling away and it gives Jantjies a chance to get South Africa off the mark - which he duly does.
H/T: A thriller it was not. The half ends before it got going, and given the beautiful rugby we've seen played over the last two weekends, you have to believe that the weather is having a serious impact on the game. Chances to score have been few and far between, with South Africa coming closest from the counter-attack and Nksoi's chip-and-chase. England's best opportunity came when Cipriani and Farrell combined, but they've barely been able to link-up such has been the disjointed theme running through the game.
41 mins: An early error from Jantjies as he drops a high ball under no pressure at all. He looks very short on confidence out there, and England receive great field possession as a result.
43 mins: The scrum leads to a penalty and it's Sinckler who gets the credit as Mtawarira drives in on the angle. Farrell will go for goal.
44 mins: Farrell's effort from just shy of 40m splits the uprights and he restores the six-point lead. 3-9
44 mins: Replacements for South Africa - and what a replacement it is! Schalk Brits comes on after 'retiring' last month to replace Chiliboy Ralepelle, while Mtawarira and Malherbe are also replaced by Steven Kitshoff and Thomas du Toit - who have both made good impressions when they've come on.
46 mins: Devastatingly clinical from the Springboks. Mostert charges over Slade with an emphatic carry and the new prop Kitschoff is involved three times - all good carries in themselves. With England in retreat, Gelant chips behind them and Jesse Kriel runs onto the ball to score. Jantjies adds the conversion and South Africa take the lead 10-9.
